The Hospital Institution "Ospedali Galliera" (established as "Opera Pia De Ferrari Brignole Sale") owes its origins to the generosity of the Duchess of Galliera that has built between 1877 and 1888.

Over the decades the Hospital has retained a particular position among public hospitals, maintaining its legal autonomy even after the approval of laws 132/68, n. 833/78, and, more recently, the D.L.vo 502/92 with following reviews. With D.P.C.M. 14/07/1995 has been identified as a Hospital of national importance and of high specialization.

According to the origins and the latest technologies on health care, the Galliera is a kind of hospital opened to the territory (since February of 2008 the assisted health residence called RSA works with 49 beds). The hospital provides citizens effective answers to the demand for health, organized in 8 health departments, 4 administrative departments and 3 inter departments with an availability of nearly 500 beds.
